Movies were also pivotal in my coming of age years. Along with Shawshank (a Christmas gift from a friend when I was 16 or 17), I was moved by Unbreakable (my favorite Shyamalan film, hands down), Hellboy (wha? a bad guy is actually the good guy?), and Harvey (the Jimmy Stewart classic). The theme of hope and belonging is strong in all of the stories I gravitated to then. And now.
How beautiful your writing is, Kori! And what a gift to hear you speak your words! I love this. Please keep doing it. Currently, my favorite movie is The Man Who Invented Christmas.
I have seen Schindler's List only twice—once with my dad and once with my husband because no one should have to do it alone. My dad and I like to rate movies on a scale of 0-10 and it is the only movie which we have given a perfect score. It's one that I have to emotionally prepare myself for because it physically hurts me to watch it. But it is such a beautiful piece of filmmaking.
Paola, I'll probably do a post in the future about The Godfather. It has a special place in my very Italian family.
My husband’s favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption. The first time I saw it was while we were dating and led to a variety of questions. At least I knew he had depth and I spent a lot of time thinking about the film and my future husband.
I have trouble naming a favorite film. Titles on my super favorite list (that I am making up right now) would include The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Pride and Prejudice (1995- I know it is a mini-series but I count it anyway), The Dark Crystal, and Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (which is how my husband and I met, except we had already met lots of times so it was when I starting falling in love).
I have watched Shawshank many times - not "Kori Morgan many times" but more than "most human beings many times." Shawshank and True Grit (2010) are tied as my favorites. I finish watching them glad that they have not been my life. Oh, wait, they have been my life (semi-metaphorically).

I love Harvey! It is so good on multiple levels.
Your words brought tears this morning. Good tears. Thank you, Kori.

I was just telling my husband last night how much I love that movie! It's become a traditional holiday watch at our house. So delightful.
Love Shawshank Redemption! And anytime I catch it on TV , I start watching it and get into it even though I know what happens next;)
My faves include: Schindler’s List and The Godfather.
Ohhhh Schindler's List! Yes! I talk about this in my writing classes, and my students have never heard of it. I'm devastated every time. haha!

I concur with the 10/10 rating. It’s stunning. But yes, tough to watch.
Love your voice and your perspective, Kori. 🌹🌟🌹
Beautifully read and beautifully written!
