Oh Kori, I'm so proud of you for recognizing that it's time to rest and let the Lord hold some of these good gifts for you. It's not easy, of course, but I think you're showing such a beautiful wisdom and humility in being willing to release this for now! I pray that your recovery goes well and that the home situation is, in some way, a means of grace through which you see the Lord's hand more clearly at work. I'm always glad to read your writing, whenever I get the opportunity, so I look forward to whatever you're working on next! Grateful for you, friend!

Kori, Thanks for this really honest post. As a fairly recent follower of your work but someone who has read both books (love them!) and always look forward to the next e-mail or essay. Of course it is disappointing that we won't hear from you as often. But.... Your health comes first. And I will wait for you to recover from this and will be praying for you. Can't wait for your next book. and sending you greetings from Portsmouth UK. God Bless.

I feel for you! We all need a rest from time to time. We are not machines and we need to allow ourselves to be fallow creatively so we can be fruitful once more. We also need to practice creative crop rotation. I am not going anywhere and will welcome you when you choose to come back to this space!! (Though Substack says otherwise, I suspect readership doesn’t mind breaks nearly as much as we think they do. I know that I have felt pressure to post regularly that I think is all on my side and not coming from my tiny group of subscribers.)

I had the same back injury happen to me last year, it turned out to be a herniated disc that required surgery. It was by far the most humbling experience in my life, and the Lord was good through it all. Romans 8 was the passage I meditated on the most during that experience.

I hope that this break is restorative for you and that you will be able to continue to see the Lord’s goodness during this time.
